Speejax Introduction

What is this site?

SpeeJax is a set of free, browser-local website speed and optimization utilities: minify HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, process images and SVGs, estimate page weight, and generate markup such as lazy-load, srcset, and preload. No account is required. Files are not uploaded to a SpeeJax server (the JavaScript minifier and formatters download an open-source library from a CDN on first use; your code itself is not sent). It fits quick work on landing pages, themes, or static pages. It does not replace a full-site performance audit, and it is not the same as automated compression in a build pipeline.

Core features

  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript minifiers strip extra whitespace and comments; matching formatters re-indent compacted code.
  • CSS Cleaner removes CSS you paste in that it treats as unused or unnecessary.
  • Images can be compressed, resized, and converted among JPG, PNG, and WebP locally (AVIF when the browser can encode it), with width, height, ratio, and file size shown.
  • SVG Optimizer trims SVG markup while trying to keep structure; images can also be encoded as Base64 data URLs.
  • Page-weight and HTML/CSS/JS size calculators estimate from sizes you enter; generators output native lazy-load, srcset/sizes, and preload tags.

Common use cases

  • A front-end developer minifies a single page of HTML/CSS/JS before commit and checks the size change before it goes into the repo.
  • A site operator compresses blog images, converts them to WebP, or tries AVIF when the browser allows, comparing original and optimized sizes.
  • A theme or landing-page author generates markup with loading="lazy", srcset, or preload and pastes it back into a template.
  • During teaching or debugging, formatters expand minified code, or the size calculator shows how much HTML, CSS, and JavaScript each contribute.

Who is it for?

  • Developers and site owners who want free, no-account, local file processing
  • People who need a quick image squeeze and responsive-image markup on SEO landing pages
  • A poor fit for anyone who wants to paste a full-site URL and get a Lighthouse score
  • A poor fit for engineering teams that must minify assets in CI, in bulk and repeatably
  • A poor fit for assuming every browser can encode AVIF, or for expecting finished speed guides (those pages are still marked coming soon)

How does it compare with similar tools?

Ask three things first: whether files stay on the device; whether you need to process one snippet or image versus audit a whole URL; and whether the result must enter a build pipeline. SpeeJax sits in the first camp: free, no signup, most work in the browser. If you need a CI minify step or lab scores against a live URL, use the matching build plugin or audit product instead of treating SpeeJax as the same job.

FAQ

Q: Do I need an account, and does SpeeJax charge?

A: No account is required. The site describes the tools as free to use and does not ask you to create an account.

Q: Are images or code uploaded to a server?

A: Supported file processing runs locally in the browser. Files are not uploaded or stored on a SpeeJax server. The JavaScript minifier and formatters download an open-source library from a CDN on first use, but your code is not sent.

Q: Does minifying code or lazy-loading every image always make a site faster?

A: Not necessarily. Minification can shrink files, but overall speed also depends on caching, request count, servers, and more. Images needed immediately in the first viewport should not all be lazy-loaded. AVIF encoding depends on whether the current browser can encode it; SpeeJax detects that and explains when conversion is unavailable.
